Method

How the calculation works

The room area is increased by your selected waste percentage. PlanCalq then divides that recommended coverage by the area contained in one pack.

Because flooring is normally purchased in full packs, the pack quantity is always rounded up. The calculator also shows the approximate coverage you will actually buy.

Worked example

Example: packaged flooring for a 20 m² room

Room: 4 m × 5 m = 20 m²
Waste: 8%
Pack coverage: 2.2 m²

Planning result21.6 m² is recommended, which rounds up to 10 packs covering 22 m².

The waste allowance raises the planning coverage from 20 m² to 21.6 m². Dividing by 2.2 m² per pack gives 9.82 packs, so the shopping quantity is 10 complete packs.

Interpret the output

How to read the result

The floor area tells you the theoretical coverage; the pack count tells you what to purchase.
Compare the purchased coverage with the recommended coverage to see how much material remains because of pack rounding.
Use a larger waste allowance when the layout has many cuts, angled walls or strict plank-pattern requirements.

Planning limits

What this calculator does not cover

Underlay, trims, transitions, adhesives and subfloor repairs are separate materials.
Plank direction and room geometry can change offcut reuse and therefore actual waste.
The calculator does not determine whether a flooring product is appropriate for moisture, load or substrate conditions.
