How to use the Flooring Calculator

Estimate how many packs of laminate, vinyl, engineered wood or similar flooring to buy from the room area and pack coverage.

Step by step

What to enter

  1. Enter the floor dimensions or reuse a saved room.
  2. Enter the coverage printed on one flooring pack.
  3. Choose a waste allowance for cuts and fitting.
  4. Optionally enter the pack price to estimate your material total.
Method

How the calculation works

The room area is increased by your selected waste percentage. PlanCalq then divides that recommended coverage by the area contained in one pack.

Because flooring is normally purchased in full packs, the pack quantity is always rounded up. The calculator also shows the approximate coverage you will actually buy.

Calculation summaryFloor area × (1 + waste %) = recommended coverageRecommended coverage ÷ pack coverage = packs required (rounded up)Packs × price per pack = estimated material cost
Common questions

Flooring Calculator FAQs

How much flooring waste should I add?

Simple rectangular rooms often need less waste than rooms with many corners, diagonal layouts or patterned installation. Adjust the percentage to suit the project.

Why does purchased coverage exceed my room area?

You must buy complete packs, and the estimate also includes the waste allowance selected for cuts and fitting.

Does this include underlay?

No. The main result estimates the flooring product itself. Underlay and trims can be estimated separately.
